Thank you all for a great SIPit26!

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

SIPit 26 is over and everything was packed together quickly, thanks to help from sponsors and participants. It did surprise me a lot how quickly we could pack all the phones, cables, tables and equipment together.

I think it’s been a great SIPit. Unfortunately, I did not have time to test much, but I will take the oppurtunity to test at the next SIPit. We’ve run many successful multiparty tests. Successful tests doesn’t mean that everything works as expected. It’s a good thing to locate new bugs in implementations, to find issues with the standard specifications.  That’s exactly why we run the SIPit interoperability tests.

SIPit26 added a lot of focus on IPv6. We integrated IPv6 in standard tests, we added IPv6 self-tests and we run IPv6 multiparty tests. I’ll write more about the results and experiences learned later.

A big thank you to:

  • The SIP Forum and Robert Sparks for organizing SIPits
  • My co-host, TANDBERG.
  • The sponsors: .se, Ingate, Intertex
  • SNOM Technologies that provided all the phones
  • My family that helped me set things up. Lisa printed badges and welcome packs, Erik that helped me building the network
  • Lasse Andersson at Whizom who helped me all week, including setting up everything
  • All the SIPit partipant companies and attendees. Together we make the SIP world better, promoting interoperability between vendors and products.

Being a SIPit host is an experience I would happily repeat. Join the club and offer to host a coming SIPit. Next up is Asia, possibly Australia. After that it’s back to the USA again.

Now, it’s time for me to get back to a normal life and get out in my garden.

With SIPit greetings from a sunny Sollentuna!

/Olle

We’re building the testbed!

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Today, we’re building the SIPit26 testbed in Electrum’s main conference hall. We have 70 testers registred and on their way to Stockholm (if the Icelandic ash doesn’t give them problems). Lincoln and James from the Interoperability Labs at the University of New Hampshire arrived safely yesterday and quickly started putting the network together.

Every team gets a phone from Snom, ranging from SNOM 320′s to the brand new SNOM 870 with touch screen. Ingate provides a PBX for the event and they’re here configuring everything to have the internal phone system up and running tomorrow.

See you all tomorrow!

Intertex

Intertex Data AB is a Swedish company with 20 years’ experience of telecommunications and the development of high-quality communication and security products. Intertex has a unique know-how, combining real-time and application programming with analogue and digital hardware design skills. The result is the highly appreciated series of broadband access products, analogue modems and Smart Card readers now available on the market.

Intertex Data AB was founded in 1982 in Stockholm, Sweden, by current owner and CEO Karl Erik Ståhl. Since then Intertex has been working with telecommunication and security products in close cooperation with large carriers and ISP’s. During the 1990’s Intertex was one of Europe’s most successful players in the dial-up modem market, mainly OEMing their products to European carriers and major ISPs. In 1998, when the technological evolution of dial-up modems ended, Intertex started developing the current line of products, called the IX66.

The IX66 is a firewall and router for the small-office/home-office (SOHO) market that has a unique support for the SIP protocol through its built-in SIP Proxy and Registrar. The IX66 can also include a built-in ADSL modem, 802.11b wireless access, and smart card reader, making it a complete solution for the SOHO segment. The IX66 was developed with the needs of the SOHO market in mind, creating a product that could take care of current and future communication for these types of users, including live person-to-person communication, e.g. voice and video, in addition to handling their data. During the on-going product development, Intertex has created a stable and extendable architecture for the IX66 and filled it with features like a real SPI and packet filtering firewall, a user friendly web interface as well as enhancements such as email notification, display and control panel, built-in support for wireless networks, and its unequalled SIP support.

Karl Erik Ståhl, Intertex founder and owner
Intertex is known for its attractive, high quality products, which have won numerous awards, and for being first out with new technology. For example, Intertex launched the world’s first 14400 bps pocket modem, the world’s first 28800 bps PCMCIA modem, the world’s first PCMCIA with voice functions, the world’s first modem with telephone functions and headset, and the very first 56 kbps modems in Europe, in both desktop and PCMCIA versions. Intertex is the first company to integrate a 56Kbps modem and a smart card reader in a 5mm thick PCMCIA card!
Innovation, quality and reliability are the cornerstones of our business idea. Therefore, development and production are based nearby the head office, in Sweden. Our products, oriented to the SOHO market, have been mainly distributed through retailers usually under their brand name. Some examples are Telia as well as About Communication for the Swedish market, and Telecom Italia, British Telecom for the European market.

Intertex has expanded rapidly and continues to grow. The financial performance has been remarkably good. According to a yearly survey done by Veckans Affärer, a leading business magazine in Sweden, Intertex was the second most profitable IT-company in Sweden in the year 2000. The launch of ADSL modems and Firewalls will increase as well as reinforce our position on the market.

.SE promotes the positive development of the Internet

.SE (The Internet Infrastructure Foundation) is responsible for the top-level Swedish Internets domain, .se. The core business is the registration of domain names and the administration and technical operation of the national domain name registry, at the same time as .SE promotes the positive development of the Internet in Sweden.

When the new business model was introduced, March 9 2009, .SE divided current operations into two parts: .SE Registry and .SE Direkt.

.SE Registry is responsible for administration and technical operation of the national domain name registry. Sales of domain names takes place through resellers called registrars. One of these is .SE Direkt, which is .SE’s own registrar business.

ON TWO LEGS

.SE is an independent public utility standing on two legs: domain name operations and development of the Internet. The surplus from the registration of domain names is used to finance projects that contribute to the Internet’s development in Sweden. Financing projects that contribute to the development of the Internet is a prerequisite for the operations, according to the Foundation’s Statues.
